NCT 127 Re-Signed With SM and the Group Chat Can Finally Breathe Again
seven members renewed on july 15, with a 10th-anniversary album booked for august 24 and a seoul tour in september already on the board. NCTzens, exhale.
renewal season has been a full-contact sport this year, so let the record show: on july 15, SM confirmed that johnny, taeyong, yuta, doyoung, jaehyun, jungwoo and haechan have all re-signed. seven names, one announcement, one collective exhale from every NCTzen who has been refreshing news tabs like it's a competitive event.
the timing is not remotely subtle. the group crossed ten years on july 7 — debut class of 2016 — and rather than mark it with a tasteful anniversary post, the company came with receipts: a seventh studio album landing august 24, and a fifth tour, NEO CITY – THE REDLINE, running september 18 through 20 in seoul.
SM's statement pointed to "the mutual trust between the members and the company," which is corporate for 'they genuinely like each other,' and honestly? a decade deep, that IS the flex. most groups never reach a first renewal, let alone re-sign as a unit in year ten.
this is the seven-member lineup now, and fandom has had a real few months getting here. today isn't the day to relitigate any of it. today is the day seven people put it in writing that they're staying.
ten years, a new album on the calendar, and a stage in seoul waiting. NCTzens, close the tab and go outside.
