Red Velvet Are Back Together on August 3 and Different Agencies Could Not Stop Them
'Velvet Summer' arrives August 3, their first full-group release in over two years. the members are now spread across separate agencies and showed up anyway — right around their debut anniversary, no less.
august 3, 6 p.m. KST. all five of them. 'Velvet Summer.' nobody has slept properly since the first teaser went up at midnight on july 6 and frankly that includes us.
this is red velvet's first full-group comeback in over two years — the last one was the 2024 mini 'Cosmic' — and it's landing right as the group rolls up on twelve years since debut. TWELVE. the ones who invented the whole red-versus-velvet dual-concept thing have returned to demonstrate it in person.
the part that actually gets people in the chest: irene, seulgi, wendy, joy and yeri are signed to different agencies now. they could have quietly let the group become a fond memory that fans repost every august. instead they scheduled a comeback. that is a choice, and it's a loving one.
the mini runs five tracks led by 'Surfin' Boy,' with the physical editions split across 'High Tide' and 'Big Wave' versions — and the teaser rollout has been drip-feeding mood clips and photo sets through late july like a slow-motion attack on our composure.
separate agencies, same group chat, one summer mini. everything is fine. we are completely fine. 💅

'WhyKiiiKiii' arrives august 10 and the teaser site issues you an actual boarding pass. every other marketing team should be taking notes right now.
so KiiiKiii are coming back on august 10 with 'WhyKiiiKiii' and instead of a normal schedule poster they built an entire fake travel agency. i'm serious. there is a website. it has a functioning booking flow. we have entered a new era of rollout.
here's the bit: you put in your name, a departure point, a date and a ticket type, and the site hands you back a boarding pass with WhyKiiiKiii listed as the destination. i filled it out immediately and so will you. no bc why is this better designed than most actual airlines i have flown.
the whole thing sits on a six-destination tour map, with each member illustrated as a tour guide working her own retro theme — heavy Y2K, vintage-advertisement energy, the kind of art direction that makes you want to print it and frame it. the site's whole invitation is to “discover the answer,” and it's promising six summers with six guides, one per member.
promo kicked off july 19 and the concept ties straight back to the album, which is apparently about working out why you should stay exactly as you already are. a record about self-trust, packaged as a holiday you can't physically attend. it's giving depth. it's giving girls who read.
august 10. boarding pass in hand. i fear this rollout quietly raised the bar for everybody else and they haven't noticed yet.
