HYBE Put LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT and KATSEYE on One Track and Called It 'Iconic By Mistake'

three girl groups, one joint digital single — video june 11, song june 12. nothing about assembling that lineup was an accident, but sure. 'by mistake.'

HYBE looked at three of its biggest girl groups, put them on ONE song, and titled it 'Iconic By Mistake.' the humility is fake and we all know it. LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT and KATSEYE share the credit — the video landed 11 a.m. ET on june 11, with the single following at midnight on the 12th.

the rollout was, respectfully, deranged in the best way. KATSEYE started it on instagram on june 7 with a 20-second clip: baroque piano, a screen buried under white feathers, then a grinding industrial noise that shakes them loose to reveal the title written in cursive made of cartoon teeth, skulls, bones and tombstones. a second teaser zoomed in far enough to find a googly-eyed bird with all three group names spread across its wings. i cannot stress enough that this was for a pop single.

the 30-second video preview kept the fever going — the women on what reads as a spaceship, a golden tooth jammed into an electrical outlet, a windstorm, a genuinely sinister trip to the dentist and a mouth full of glitter. dental horror as a visual concept. sure! why not! it's june!

no producer or writer credits were out at press time, which only made the speculation worse. three groups pulled from across HYBE's roster — two korean, one assembled globally — on a one-off nobody saw coming.

context on where everyone was at: LE SSERAFIM dropped their second studio album in may behind 'Boompala' and 'Celebration,' KATSEYE have a five-song EP due august 14 with 'Pinky Up' already out, and ILLIT released 'It's Me' earlier this year. everyone was mid-era. they did it anyway.

iconic on purpose. the title is a LIE and it's my favorite thing about it.

Three Members of Girls' Generation Made a Subunit and Named the Debut Single 'SKIBIDI,' Respectfully What

Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung are officially HYORISOO, debuting August 31 with a song literally called 'SKIBIDI.' the legends looked at the brainrot dictionary and said yes, that one.

not me having to sit down for this one. Girls' Generation — yes, THAT Girls' Generation — have a new subunit: Hyoyeon, Yuri, and Sooyoung, collectively HYORISOO. they debut August 31, and the title track is called 'SKIBIDI.' I need a moment.

for the uninitiated, 'SKIBIDI' first showed up on HYORISOO's own YouTube series before getting upgraded to actual-debut-single status. so this isn't an accident, it's a bit they committed to. iconic behavior from women who debuted in 2007 and owe us nothing.

apparently SM A&R Chris Lee is the one who picked the song, and the recording sessions were described as the usual chaos — which, for these three, tracks completely.

the girlies are unbothered, chronically online, and about to make you scream a nonsense word at a comeback stage. August 31. be ready. we are so back.
